These images are mock-ups for a potential public intervention commission in transient urban settings. In my research around signs and symbolism, in flag protocol when a flag is hung backward it is a sign of distress. Language is power, and when we manipulate language like displaying it backward it’s a kind of queering the dominant narrative around empire building and exploration of natural resources.
